Margam Park, just off junction 38 M4, South Wales
Katherine Jenkins
Neath girl, Katherine, has sold some two million records since her debut in 2003 and had four top ten CDs, all former #1’s, in the charts at the end of 2006. The mezzo-soprano has also sold out many of the world's biggest concert halls in the last year, from the Royal Albert Hall to the Sydney Opera House, including full houses at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod, The National Eisteddfod and The Wales Millennium Centre (3 nights). “Katherine in the Park” will be the first ever concert Jenkins has played in front of her hometown audience since the former music teacher left the small South Wales town to make her meteoric rise to global stardom.
Juan Diego Flórez
Juan Diego Flórez’s journey to the forefront of classical music has been equally breathtaking, and the opera world has already crowned him as the natural successor to one Luciano Pavarotti. His sold out concert at Covent Garden last month left the audience and critics euphoric as he hit a series of 9 perfect high c’s in his version of Donizetti’s “Ah! Mes Amis.” The Peruvian’s recent appearance at La Scala in Milan, for many the home of opera music, brought such ecstatic applause that La Scala was forced to break a 70-year old ruling and allow him to give an encore of an acclaimed aria. Even Maria Callas and Pavarotti have been unable to overturn the ban and reprise their triumphs. This is his first ever outdoor show in the UK.
Tickets go on sale this Saturday, March 17, and are priced at £37.50 picnic and £45.00 reserved seating and are available from the box-office on 02920 230130 or in person from Ticketline, Cardiff, at 47 Westgate St, Cardiff CF10 1TL.
